Tips For Better Pest Control In Your Building

There are few things more annoying than finding that your home is infested with pests. Sometimes it can seem as if there is no way to rid your property of these unwanted guests. Fortunately, there are some easy and effective pest control tips that you can use to eliminate pests from your property.

Ask your exterminator to use the most effective methods first. Many exterminators assume that you rather give the less potent methods a try first, in order to save money, but they very rarely work. You might as well just use the most effective method so that it is done and over with.

If you believe that you have a bat in the house, leave a window open overnight. Try to pick one that is located close to where you think the bat might be. These pests follow the air current, so they should go right back outside if they have a way to exit the premises.

If you live on a farm and have a problem with mice, or even rats, consider getting a couple outdoor cats to provide natural pest control. Make sure the cats have not been declawed, and have access to every part of the outdoor buildings. Make sure to provide food and water to the cats because they will still catch mice even if they are not hungry.

If you are getting rodents around the house, do not plant trees close to your house. Rodents can easily climb trees and get into the house through attics and roofs. Plant them far from your home, about 15 feet away.

Did you see some carpenter ants in your home? These ants are usually attracted by damp wood. There might be a leak somewhere in your home. Call a plumber and have your plumbing system entirely inspected. Once the leak is fixed, focus on eradicating the carpenter ants with some borax or a similar product.

Pesky mosquitoes are known to multiply in stagnant water. If you have a birdbath in your yard, change the water every three days. Many people also suggest adding lavender to a birdbath to help combat your mosquito population. So, try adding it to your birdbath each time you refill it.

If you are being bothered with mice and rats, it is time to set traps. Most rodents are attracted to peanut butter. Take a small bit of peanut butter and roll it into a tiny ball and place it on a mouse trap to tantalize rodents with the scent.

To get rid of pests, you need to educate yourself. Find out what it eats, where it prefers to nest, and (most importantly) what can kill or drive it away. When you know more about the pest’s characteristics, you can come up with a specific plan to eradicate it.

Check to see if the shingles in your home are in need of repair every few months or so. Bugs will tend to feast on anything that is molding or breaking down, especially wood. Try to keep your home up to date if you want to avoid a bug problem in the future.

Read the labels and directions of any pest-control products you use thoroughly. More is not always better. Misapplication or overuse of certain products can be dangerous to the occupants of your home. In some cases, it is even illegal and can result in fines or jail time behind bars.

To ensure ants don’t move into your home, mix 1c sugar and 1c borax in a 1 quart jar. Hammer holes into the lid with a nail and then use the jar to spread the mixture around your foundation, doors, windows and the baseboards on the inside, too. The sugar attracts ants while the Borax kills them.

A variety of garden pests including snails, cutworms and slugs can be kept away by with ingredients from your kitchen. Spread crushed nut shells or eggshells in your garden to keep them away. As an added benefit, adding these ingredients to your garden will help increase the nutrients in your garden.

If you live in an apartment, condo, or any other multi-unit building, make sure your pest control methods aren’t negatively affecting neighbors. Also make sure that your neighbors ensure that their apartments aren’t infested as well. Sometimes the entire apartment or condo building is infested and measures must be taken beyond your unit.

One of the ways that you can get rid of pests in a cheap and effective manner is to pour black pepper over any area that you think may have pests. This will help as this is not a pleasant scent for pests, and they will go elsewhere in places that pepper is present.

If you are suffering from an infestation of pests, you do not just have to try and live with it. By using the easy pest control techniques listed in this article, you can get rid of the vermin that are invading your home. Start using these tips right away for effective pest control.

When you are eating food, and you have not finished it, make sure that you store it in sealed containers. If the container you use is not sealed well, it will attract a lot of pests. Use plastic bins or plastic bags that can be sealed, and put them in a place where pests cannot get in.

Borax is an especially effective pest control substance when combating insects. Place the borax in areas you know the insects, such as roaches, hang out. To get them to ingest the borax, make it attractive to the insects. Mix it with a little bit of sugar, a great bait that is loved by insects.
