If you have a pest problem, you may be feeling completely overwhelmed. It might seem like they multiply even when you’re doing what you can. If so, keep reading to get some great ideas for handling the problem.

Use hairspray to kill cockroaches. If you ever have a cockroach in your home and don’t have any bug killer on hand, try using an aerosol hairspray. It allows you to keep a significant distance between yourself and the roach, while being an effective means of suffocating and killing it.

If you notice that there are mice lurking around the house, set up a mouse trap. Peanut butter is the best thing that you can use to lure the mice in, as this will help to catch them. Try to place many of these around the house to increase your chances of catching it.

Fumigate your home on a regular basis if you have had a pest problem more than one time. Some pests are so populated in an area that it can be next to impossible to keep them out of your home. However, if you take preventative measures, you are more likely to succeed.

A perimeter spray will discourage pests from getting too close to your home. In addition to the foundation, you should spray porches, patios, steps and around windows and doors. Keep your eyes open for cracks around the exterior of the home. Use caulk or another filler to seal the gaps.

It is crucial that you fix any broken screens in your home if your issue is with flying insects. The windows and screens keep out both flying and crawling bugs. If your screens have holes in them, get them fixed so that bugs cannot enter.

If you live in an apartment complex or multi-unit condo complex, unite with your neighbors. Anything you try to do to control pests in your own unit will be unsuccessful if all the other units in your building are infested. Get together with the residents of your building and schedule pest control for the entire building to deal with the problem.

Bugs and other types of pests love clutter. It gives them lots of shelter and places to hide. When you reduce the amount of clutter in and around your home, you are reducing the habitat for these pests. Remove old clothes, books, boxes, and other clutter from around your home to reduce your chances of an infestation.

If you have pets in your home, make sure that you clean up after them. Leaving pet food or pet waste out in the open can be an invitation for flies or other types of insects to come into your home. Clean up efficiently if you want to prevent bugs from coming into your house.

If you see that there is a sudden infestation of bugs in and around your home, look around for trash that may have been left out. Bugs, insects and animals will run to this, as cleaning this mess up can get rid of your issue effectively, saving you time and money.

Make sure mosquitoes have no place to hang out in your home. Drain places that are harboring stagnant water. Mosquitoes are known to be in places with as little water as what is inside of a can of food.

Remove dead trees and shrubbery. If you let these dead plants just sit around, you are begging for pests to hang out around your home. Instead, be proactive and remove them the minute you can. If it’s not a full tree, but simply a few branches, cut them off immediately.

Make sure that all of your windows are closed when you go to sleep at night or go on vacation. The last thing that you will want to do is to give the bugs outside a free entryway into your house. Seal all windows when you are sleeping or not home to reduce pests.

You need to decide just how much tolerance you have for certain pests. For instance, can you handle an insect in your garden or an ant in your kitchen every now and then? Most people can deal with this very small problem. However, you probably will not tolerate any fleas or ticks in your home. Once you are aware of the amount and type of pest activity you can tolerate, you can then develop a proper plan.

A variety of garden pests including snails, cutworms and slugs can be kept away by with ingredients from your kitchen. Spread crushed nut shells or eggshells in your garden to keep them away. As an added benefit, adding these ingredients to your garden will help increase the nutrients in your garden.

Ridding yourself of pests isn’t easy. Some people wage protracted battles against pests for months or even years. Apply what you’ve learned here, and get rid of them now. You will finally be able to sleep in a home that is totally pest-free.

If there are cockroaches in your home, you need to take action immediately. Clean your home with some strong soap and get some garlic, boric acid and catnip. Place these things in your cupboards, under your sink and in your bathroom. Keep your food in airtight containers and clean your fridge entirely.
