You are not alone in thinking that parenting is a tough job and you may find that you are easily overwhelmed by the challenges you face every day. If a happy home and family is important to you, then you will find a way to face those challenges. Try some of the practical suggestions below.

What experts say is true– reading books to your child is very important. Children learn just about everything by reading, from colors and numbers, to shapes and letters. Experts believe that 30 minutes of book reading each night could have your child on the way to reading before they even reach kindergarten!

Although it is a widely debated topic, it is highly recommended that your child get all necessary vaccinations. Some of the diseases that your child can get if they do not get vaccinated could make them sick or worse, even kill them. This holds especially true for children who go to school, where diseases are spread more rapidly.

Take advantage of carpools when sending your children to school. A carpool allows you to not have to shuttle your children back and forth to school every day. It also gives your children some extra socialization time with the neighbors. You save time, and save on gas as well.

If you have a difficult or especially demanding toddler, consider part-time daycare or nursery school. These options allow you maintain most of the control in raising your child, but still get them out of the house. Nursery school can provide a situation in which your child is being cared for by someone who won’t give in to their demands and doesn’t mind if they cry.

For parents who have children that like to sleep in your bed, it is important that you get them to sleep in their own bed. This is because the older a child gets, the harder it will be to stop the habit. When they come into your bed, immediately put them back into theirs.

Make sure that your child is getting enough sleep each night. If they do not get enough sleep, they tend to lose focus throughout the day, which could prevent them from doing school work and other activities. Try not to let them eat or drink anything sugary for at least a few hours before bedtime.

Instead of using bottles as a way for dad to bond with the baby, look into other more novel options. Many breastfeeding relationships are harmed by the need to have dad involved in the feeding. Fathers however have many other ways to bond with their babies than by interfering with feeding time. Have dad give baths or massages to the baby. Dad can rock the baby to sleep after breastfeeding is done providing crucial bonding moments.

You can make your disciplinary efforts far more effective, by trying to shift the focus of your words from only highlighting the child’s wrongdoing to using positive language. Children who are repeatedly criticized, have a natural tendency to resist discipline, which in turn, leads to increased instances of fits, discipline problems and poor conduct.

Although children may be temperamental there is no such thing as a bad child. If your child is constantly disobedient and disrespectful, that says much more about you than it does your children. Just like you had to learn Algebra you must learn how to raise a child. There are many resources available for you.

It is okay to go to the drive-thru if you are having a very hard day and it would make things more convenient for you, but do not make that a part of your regular routine. You should use this as a treat for the children, instead of feeding them these foods regularly, because this habit can lead to child obesity.

If your baby is breastfeeding, make sure that your child’s pediatrician or family doctor uses the World Health Organization growth charts intended for breastfed babies. Your baby may grow differently from formula-fed babies and these charts, better reflect the standard growth patterns for infants and toddlers that are nursing.

If your child is sick, especially with a fever or cough, it is crucial that you not send them to school. Not only does your child need to stay home and rest when they are sick, but sending them to school can increase the chances of your child spreading their illness to other kids.

A great tip to help you be a good parent is to never abuse drugs or alcohol. If your child sees you when you’re drunk or high on drugs they’ll lose a tremendous amount of respect for you. You can simply avoid this by drinking moderately and by not doing drugs.

As you can see from these great suggestions, it is not necessary to feel overwhelmed in your goal to face your parenting challenges and create a happy home and family. Take the information you have learned in the article above and you can turn a tough job into an opportunity to grow as a parent and a person.

Think about what message you are sending your child! Always tell your kid the truth; don’t lie to them. You want to show your kids that they can trust you. If your kid sees you lying, not only will they stop trusting you, but they’ll also get the idea that it’s okay to lie.
